The second meeting of the Tripartite Group for the implementation of the Integrated Border Management (IBM) Agreement

Brussels, 13 to 14 February 2012

On 13 and 14 February 2012, a meeting was held in Brussels between experts from Kosovo and Serbia, mediated by the EU, in order to draft and finalize the technical protocol for the implementation of the Agreement on Integrated Border Management (IBM).

The Kosovo party once again gave its professional contribution to the drafting and finalization of the protocol and on this occasion insisted that the implementation of the IBM agreement start as soon as possible and be in the spirit of the best EU standards. Through the implementation of the agreement on integrated border management, Kosovo will fulfill one of the European obligations for approximation with the EU, in particular for visa liberalization and will increase border security and control. The implementation of this agreement will facilitate the free movement of people and goods and will affect the fight against negative phenomena such as smuggling and informality.

The Kosovo expert team consisted of Lirim Greicevci – IBM case coordinator, Dren Zeka – political advisor to Deputy Prime Minister Edita Tahiri, Naim Huruglica – director of Kosovo Customs, Shaban Guda – director of the border police and Valdet Gjinovci – chief of staff Food and Veterinary Agency.
